Summary Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metal parts,  jigs and fixtures by performing the following duties. Must have own tools and be a strong manual machine operator.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.

 

Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.

 

Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.

 

Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.

 

Lifts machined parts and positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable.

 

Fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.

 

Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.

Education and/or Experience                                                

 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Five years minimum background in a job shop environment.

 

 

Language Skills                                             

 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.  Must be able to read and understand drawings.

 

 

Mathematical Skills                                                   

 

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  Must be able to work in both Metric and English units.

 

 

Reasoning Ability                                                      

 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

 

Basic Qualifications

 

Basic Anilam programming is preferable; ability to tram in head, indicate vises square and complete complex set-ups; sine bar, plate set-up and calculation of stack up to produce correct angle.  Must have manual lathe skills and operating knowledge of surface grinding.  Must be able to hold .002" tolerances and less.  Must have good working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.  Must be able to use micrometers, depth gages and calipers.  Must be willing to debur parts at machine.
